Creating A Modern Staircase

The staircase design by Plank and Pillow was a fan favorite last year and for obvious reason. This minimalist staircase design with White Oak Treads and Handrails paired with Iron Balusters was a very popular trend in 2021, and this design is not going anywhere anytime soon. Check out how Brooke and Henry created this beautiful staircase below!

Plan

For Brooke and Henry, their staircase was going to be the first thing that friends and family would see when entering their home. This meant that they had to ensure the design was seamless with the rest of their space. With their White Oak flooring already in place, they decided to match the treads and railing to create a flawless design.

They also knew they wanted to create a more modern staircase utilizing black metal. “We knew we wanted to incorporate the black metal somewhere, so we chose a simple square black metal baluster. But, for the handrail and newel posts, we decided to do wood, white oak to be specific. We agreed that this would bring in more of a clean look while keeping with the cozy cottage feel.”

Products Used

Brooke and Henry went back and forth with the team at L.J. Smith to determine the best products to match their desired staircase design. “Finding the perfect products that would make our design come to life was easy for us when partnering with L.J. Smith.”

The Finished Space

After picking all of the right products, the staircase design came together beautifully in Brooke and Henry’s new home. Offering a modern and minimalist look, the new staircase blends in perfectly to their modern home.

Being the first impression of their home, it was so important that this staircase reflected their design choice. “This was one of those things that we definitely wanted to get right! After all, it’s really the first thing you see when you come in the front door.”
