Add a Stairway Check to Your Autumn Projects Checklist

Rickety. Unsafe. Creaky. Sometimes these words are used to describe outdoor railing systems that have aged over time. We don't often think about it, but the same can be said for some interior stairway systems.

Fall Fix-Ups

As autumn settles in, fall fix-ups are underway outdoors. However, don't overlook your interior stairs.

Over time, with constant use of a stairway system, it can become "unsettled" and overused. Just think about how many times each day members of your family pull or tug (yes, especially children) on the railing system as they go up and down the stairs. During the years, daily use can take its toll.

Now is the time to make sure your balusters are firmly in place. Plus, check to assure there are no wobbly handrails or newel posts. If there are, often they can be fixed with a tightening of some screws; but other times a piece of the railing system may need to be replaced. If that's the case, you may wish to have a professional come to repair the stairway section.
