Brownstone Boys Nostrand Staircase Build

If you know the Brownstone Boys, you know they have a reputation for renovating old homes in Brooklyn and turning them into beautiful modern spaces for the families that live there. Their Nostrand project was no different than this, but it held significant value due to the space being a generational home for the two sisters who live there. The space was unique in that it not only held amazing family stories, but the building used to serve as a storefront ranging from a laundromat to a doughnut shop.

With a brand new staircase needed in the home to bridge the gap between the old storefront and the living space, the Brownstone Boys reached out to L.J. Smith to see if they could assist with their great undertaking of making this old storefront a part of the home.

The Plan

Sisters, Aileen & June, grew up in their family home since the 1970s and it was in desperate need of renovation. When most of the walls were falling down and floors were caving in, they knew it was time to make a change. One of the biggest changes in this 3-story former store-front building was making the lower two floors a duplex. To do that - they needed some quality stair parts to get the job done.

“With the help of our friends at L.J. Smith, we configured a staircase that could be used from the first to the second floor without having to access the corridor.”

Products Used

So, how did the Brownstone Boys build this staircase? Check out all of the products they used in this transformation below.

The Finished Space

This project was no small feat, but Jordan and Barry created yet another stunning staircase that not only contrasts beautifully with the home, but bridged the gap between the old storefront space and the second floor duplex.

“When we met with Aileen & June, the home was deteriorating with ceilings caving in and joists crumbling. The challenge was creating a duplex with a new staircase between the first and second floors. We ended up turning to L.J. Smith for all the parts and pieces for these 2 beautiful staircases. The new handrail, balusters, and newel posts fit into this historic family home perfectly. 🖤

If you’re in the market to upgrade your staircase (or any stair part) we really love L.J. Smith’s selection of both modern & traditional pieces.”
