Create An Open Walkway With Iron Balusters

Bringing old staircases to life is something that L.J. Smith Stair Systems prides itself on. We work to provide the best quality of products to give new life to your home. When Tina Bousu came across this principal, she knew she found the perfect solution for her outdated level run.

Tina Bousu with @eclectic_twist is an interior and product stylist who was chosen as a Featured Designer for the 2021 Fall One Room Challenge. Taking on three spaces in her home, the most drastic transformation happened right in the heart of her home; her stair landing and level run.

The Plan

Tina’s goal in her space was to tear out her old, half-wall balcony railing and replace it with modern Iron Balusters to open up the space. She also utilized No Show Fasteners to give the landing a clean look.

“L.J. Smith has an awesome installation kit for their hollow iron balusters. Using their double-ended screws I was able to lock one end into the drill and screw it down to the center of the hole.”

She outlines the entire installation process on her blog.

Products Used

After several discussions with the team at L.J. Smith along with many quick sketches, Tina landed on the perfect design for her space - Plain 1/2” Hollow Iron Balusters paired with our new Marquis Baluster for a contemporary and fun design.

“I decided on L.J. Smith’s Marquis design paired with simple Iron Balusters and White Oak Railing to compliment the European oak floor.”

Finished Space

After demolishing the outdated half wall on Tina’s landing, she instantly saw the space come together. The Iron Balusters created a fully unobstructed view of her second-floor run, and it completely opened up her home. She painted all of the doors black to complement the Iron Balusters, and the finished design came out looking seamless.

“The way this opened up the house and the difference in how it feels is hard to put into words, just pure love.”
