Skirtboard is the non-structural, decorative trim board used in carriage built stairways to trim over the carriage on the open side of the stairway. Skirtboard is also used along the wall on the closed side of the stairway to create a clean finished appearance. Skirt and trim boards are available in several sizes and lengths for various stairway applications.
