Creating the "Wow Factor" with L.J. Smith Stair Systems

Forget about the grand staircase in Gone with the Wind. In today's design market, a stainless steel cable stair system creates the "wow factor" in homes across America.

"We selected the stainless steel cable and cable fittings for our main stairway to complement our wood flooring and barn wood wall," says homeowner Tyler Young. "We've jokingly called it 'Pottery Barn Meets Redneck.' However, in truth we just like the modern look mixed in with the rustic look.

"This stairway system has definitely become a conversation piece in our new home. It generates a lot of positive comments from people who say they've never seen anything like it. This system truly blends together the new look of stainless steel with the old barn look of weathered wood."

Opening Up Interior Space

The cable stairway was recommended to Young by his builder, Salisbury Homes. The unique system matched the modern look inside the home and helped continue opening up the interior space.

Part of the Linear Collection available from L.J. Smith Stair Systems, the impressive contemporary stair parts include marine-grade stainless steel cable along with brushed stainless steel tubing for a sleek stairway appearance. Both Red Oak and Hard Maple handrail options are available to provide a refined, clean look to the stair system.

"Our company has installed L.J. Smith stair systems for 18 years and we're always impressed with the new products they introduce," says Cory Wall, owner of Wall Family Carpentry in Utah. "We're extremely pleased with how this project turned out in Tyler's home. The cable system really meshes well with the barn wood and creates an instant 'wow factor' when you walk in the door.

"I've installed this cable rail system before in our area. It appears to be gaining in popularity. This trend may have started in the kitchen, but stainless steel accents are definitely making their way throughout the entire home."
