Linear Cable & Metal Newel System


1. What size are the metal newels?

2" x 2" square and the bottom installation plate on the kneewall stair newels is 4-3/4” x 3-1/2”. All other newels have a 3-1/2” x 3-1/2” bottom installation plate.


2. To use the cable metal newels what must the rake ascension be?

7-1/2" rise x 10" run or 36.9 degree angle of ascension.


3. What do I do if my rise x run is not the required 7-1/2" rise x 10" run, 36.9*?

A custom Linear rake metal newel is possible. Contact our customer service dept.


4. Are the Linear metal cable newels aluminum or steel?

Aluminum


5. What is the maximum distance between the metal newels with cable infill?

42" for the rake and level. We recommend that you always check with our local building inspector before installation.


6. Are the Linear metal newels solid or hollow?

Hollow


7. Do I have to use a metal newel at a level or rake wall when installing metal cable fittings?

No, if there are two 2x4s behind the sheetrock/drywall then you can install one half (either the fixed or the tensioner) of the wood cable fittings pair directly into the sheetrock/drywall hitting the 2x4s.


8. Are they useable on an open tread and a kneewall?

Yes, by selecting the appropriate metal Linear newel they work with both; on an open tread balustrade or on a kneewall


9. Can the newels be used outside?

Yes, they are aluminum they can be used in an exterior application with our Marine Grade 316 Stainless Steel fittings and cable.
